Cyprus president addresses regional crisis in national broadcast

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides addressed the nation on Wednesday, emphasizing that the country's primary priority is the safety of its citizens amidst the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. He categorically denied any military involvement by the Republic of Cyprus, stating it will not participate in or serve as a base for any offensive military operations. The government has mobilized all state services and is in constant communication with partners, including Greece, France, Italy, and Spain. To ensure public safety and accurate information, the Civil Defense has activated a pilot emergency notification system for mobile phones. Furthermore, the president noted that efforts to repatriate stranded Cypriot citizens are ongoing, with initial flights already completed. While addressing potential concerns regarding British bases on the island, the president did not rule out future discussions but stressed that current focus remains on national security. He urged the public to rely exclusively on official government sources for updates and to remain calm.
