Cypriot government coordinates repatriation of citizens from the Middle East

On March 5, 2026, the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that 512 citizens were repatriated within a 24-hour period, with 488 arriving from the United Arab Emirates. Earlier reports indicated that approximately 756 individuals had registered on the ConnectCy platform for evacuation due to regional instability. While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated a total of 213 people were served through five flights (one chartered and four commercial), the Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos provided higher figures for the most recent day. Authorities are coordinating ongoing efforts, with additional flights scheduled for Friday and potentially Saturday to assist those still in the region. Minister Kombos urged citizens to update their information on the ConnectCy platform, noting that registrations from individuals who have already departed or changed their plans hinder the evacuation process. The Ministry continues to operate a 24-hour crisis management center to facilitate these returns. Several European leaders, including those from Greece, France, and Italy, have been thanked for their support during this operation.
