Germany currently declines to provide military support to Cyprus
The German government has announced that it does not currently plan to provide military support to Cyprus. Government sources in Nicosia stated that while there were initial discussions at a high level, the equipment currently available from Berlin does not meet the specific needs of the Republic of Cyprus at this time. Furthermore, sending German aid outside of NATO missions requires parliamentary approval, which is a time-consuming process. Government spokesperson Steffen Cornelius confirmed that Berlin is monitoring the situation closely following a reported drone attack. He noted that existing regional measures and NATO coverage are considered sufficient for the time being. However, the German government emphasized that it remains in contact with Cypriot authorities and did not rule out changing its stance if the situation evolves. Meanwhile, discussions regarding potential military assistance from Italy are scheduled to take place in the Italian parliament tomorrow.
