Cyprus government tests new national emergency SMS alert system

The Cyprus Interior Ministry has launched a new national emergency SMS alert system in response to regional tensions. Developed in cooperation with local telecommunications providers, the system aims to provide citizens with timely information during potential security incidents. A live test of the messaging service was conducted at approximately 19:00 today. During the test, a notification was sent to all mobile phone subscribers across the island. The government stated that the initiative is a preventative measure intended to prepare the population for future safety protocols. Citizens have been advised to remain calm and follow instructions from the Civil Defence should an actual emergency alert be received in the future. The implementation follows reports of increased activity and security concerns within the region.
