Trump announces $5 billion Peace Council commitment for Gaza reconstruction

U.S. President Donald Trump announced via Truth Social that the member countries of the Peace Council have committed over $5 billion for Gaza's reconstruction and humanitarian needs. The formal announcement is set for February 19, 2026, during a meeting at the Donald J. Trump Peace Institute in Washington D.C. Additionally, member states have pledged thousands of personnel for a UN-sponsored stabilization force and for staffing the local police in the Palestinian enclave. As part of the second phase of his peace plan, Trump called for the full and immediate demilitarization of Hamas. This phase also includes the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces and the deployment of international stabilization units. While Israel and Hamas have exchanged accusations regarding violations of a ceasefire in effect since October 10, Trump noted that his vision was previously adopted by the UN Security Council. The Peace Council, which was inaugurated at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January, aims to resolve armed conflicts globally.
