Cyprus marks International Childhood Cancer Day with new healthcare initiatives

On February 15, 2026, the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus and the Ministry of Health highlighted the importance of strengthening pediatric oncology care to mark International Childhood Cancer Day. The Cyprus Presidency announced the establishment of a new Pediatric Oncology Clinic, funded by a donation from the Kleanthous Charitable Foundation. Existing infrastructure includes the model Pediatric Oncology Department at Makario Hospital and a system for specialized treatment referrals where required. During a charity event at the Rialto Theatre in Limassol, Health Minister Neophytos Charalambidis stated that childhood cancer survival rates now exceed 80%. The event, titled "TOGETHER - A Dream, A Wish, A Voice, Hope," was inspired by a song by educator and musician Stelios Michaelides. The Minister emphasized the role of early diagnosis, modern treatment, and ongoing research in improving medical outcomes. He also reaffirmed the state's commitment to providing an accessible and quality health system for affected families. The Ministry of Health officially supported the campaign, recognizing its humanitarian character and the strength of the children involved.
