Development of Limassol's Northern Parallel road project progresses in stages
The Northern Parallel road project, a key infrastructure development north of Limassol, is advancing through independent sections at varying stages of maturity. Running from Amathus in the east to Kourion in the west, the project has been part of the Limassol Local Plan since 1990. The Minister of Transport recently indicated that construction on the Kourion Municipality section is expected to commence by the end of 2026. For the Amathus section, spanning from Germasogeia to Armenia Street, a regulatory plan has been approved by the Technical Committee of the Traffic Problems Resolution Authority. However, the Project Concept Note still awaits approval from the General Directorate of Growth due to costs exceeding €15 million. Consequently, a feasibility study is required, with a tender for the study expected to be announced soon. The total cost for this specific section is estimated at €18 million, excluding expropriation expenses. Meanwhile, the section from Armenia Street to 1st April Avenue faces technical challenges due to significant elevation differences and ravines. The Department of Town Planning and Housing has requested detailed terrain modeling from the Limassol Municipality to allow the Department of Public Works to explore alternatives.
