Eleven-year-old Elsa returns to school after cancer treatment

Elsa, an 11-year-old student at Pascal Primary Nicosia, has returned to school following a diagnosis and treatment for a rare form of cancer. Her symptoms began in May 2025 with nighttime abdominal pain and vomiting, which were initially diagnosed by medical professionals as gastritis. On May 5, 2025, her parents, Stella Georgiou and her husband, sought further medical evaluation where a mass was discovered. The condition, described as occurring in one in two million cases, required several months of clinical treatment. Following her recovery, Elsa returned to school on her 11th birthday, an event marked by a celebration organized by the school administration despite her mother's initial health concerns. Stella Georgiou shared the family's experience during interviews with Philenews and Alpha Enimerosi to coincide with International Childhood Cancer Day. The school's welcoming ceremony included a ceremonial victory bell and a birthday song performed by the student body.
