Arrest of 22-year-old Ukrainian man for New Year's Day assault in Limassol
A 22-year-old Ukrainian citizen was arrested at Larnaca Airport on Friday, February 13, in connection with an assault that occurred on New Year’s Day. The suspect is accused of striking a 29-year-old man in the face with a glass object during an altercation at a nightclub on Saripolou Street in Limassol. The victim suffered serious injuries, including fractures of the frontal sinus, the base of the skull, and the nasal bone. According to police records, the suspect had initially arrived in Cyprus on December 27 and left the island on January 2, one day after the incident. Upon his return on February 13, he was detained and subsequently remanded in custody for four days by the court. The victim reported that the conflict began after a verbal provocation in the venue's restroom involving a friend's previous dispute. Authorities are currently searching for three additional individuals linked to the same case. The 29-year-old complainant was treated at a private hospital for his injuries. While sources vary on whether he appeared before a court in Larnaca or Limassol, the detention order for four days was confirmed.
