Reza Pahlavi calls for US military intervention in Iran at Munich Security Conference
Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran's last Shah, called for United States military intervention in Iran during the Munich Security Conference. Speaking to Reuters, he stated that military action could save lives and accelerate the collapse of the current clerical government. Pahlavi urged the administration of President Donald Trump to cease negotiations regarding the nuclear deal and focus on weakening the regime. His comments were made at a venue where Iranian government officials were barred from participating. Pahlavi, who has lived in the US since before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, claimed the Iranian government is currently on the brink of collapse. This appeal follows a period of intense civil unrest in Iran that began on December 28 at Tehran's Grand Bazaar. Those protests, initially focused on economic issues, spread nationwide and resulted in thousands of arrests and significant casualties. Pahlavi expressed hope that external pressure would encourage Iranian citizens to return to the streets and finalize the regime's downfall.
