Western nations attribute Alexei Navalny's death to Ecuadorian frog toxin
Five Western nations, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, and France, have concluded that Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was poisoned with epibatidine. This neurotoxin, derived from the Ecuadorian poison dart frog, is reportedly 200 times more potent than morphine and is classified as a chemical weapon. According to a joint investigation presented at a press conference in Munich, the substance is difficult to detect in standard toxicological screens and was likely synthesized in a laboratory. UK officials, including Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, stated that the Russian government under Vladimir Putin is the only entity with the means and motive to deploy such a toxin in a prison setting. Clinical toxicologist Dr. Erik Franssen noted that the toxin acts directly on the muscles and heart, potentially causing death within 10 to 20 minutes. The findings were shared on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in the presence of Navalny's widow, Yulia Navalnaya. The report follows analysis of samples taken from Navalny's body after his death in a Siberian penal colony.
