Tufan Erhurman criticizes stagnation over Cyprus crossing points
Turkish Cypriot politician Tufan Erhurman has expressed concern over the lack of progress regarding the opening of new crossing points and the improvement of existing ones. During a recent meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York, Erhurman highlighted that failure to resolve such practical issues undermines confidence in reaching a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem. He specifically cited delays at the Agios Dometios crossing and discussed proposals for new points at Mia Milia, Louroujina, and Pyroi. Erhurman stated that expansion works on the northern side of the Agios Dometios crossing have been completed by a Turkish Cypriot contractor. He is now calling for the Greek Cypriot side to finish corresponding works and fulfill previous commitments. The politician emphasized that these efforts are not intended for military or political gain, but to facilitate daily life for both communities. Despite potential negative economic impacts on the northern part due to shifted purchasing power, he argued that inter-community contact remains the priority.
