Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi meets US, EU, and Ukrainian counterparts in Munich
During the Munich Security Conference in February, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held multiple high-level bilateral meetings to address international relations and security concerns. Wang met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their second face-to-face interaction, seeking to mitigate tensions over trade, tariffs, and Taiwan following a positive call between Presidents Trump and Xi. In discussions with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and German representative Johann Wadephul, Wang emphasized that China and the EU should act as partners rather than rivals. He argued that interdependence does not pose a security risk and that Chinese development presents an opportunity for Europe. Wang also met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha to discuss peace efforts regarding the war with Russia. While Sybiha highlighted China's potential role in facilitating an end to the conflict, Western governments and Kyiv maintain concerns regarding Beijing's economic support for Moscow. Ukraine expressed interest in maintaining high-level diplomatic contacts with China moving forward.
