Manolis Konstantinou, 58, killed in highway accident near Xylophagou

A 58-year-old man named Manolis Konstantinou from Deryneia lost his life on Friday night following a traffic accident on the Larnaca-bound highway. The incident occurred around 21:45 near the first exit to Xylophagou within the British Sovereign Base Areas (SBA). Konstantinou was reportedly struck by a passing vehicle while he was attempting to change a tire in the emergency lane or the left lane of the road. Following the collision, the highway was temporarily closed, with traffic diversions in place until it reopened at 01:15. The driver of the involved vehicle was arrested and tested negative for both alcohol and narcotics. Despite the negative test results, the driver remains in custody and is expected to appear before a court within the day. SBA Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
