Police shoot knife-wielding man near Arc de Triomphe in Paris
On Friday around 6:00 PM local time, Paris police shot and neutralized a 48-year-old man who threatened officers with a knife near the Arc de Triomphe. The incident occurred shortly before the ceremony for the rekindling of the flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The suspect, identified as Brahim B. from Seine-Saint-Denis, was transported to a hospital in critical condition, with one source reporting that he later died from his injuries. Reports regarding casualties differ; while some sources state a gendarme was slightly injured, others report no harm to law enforcement. The attacker had a previous 2013 conviction in Belgium for stabbing two police officers in Brussels in 2012, an act he reportedly committed to protest the public burqa ban. Having been released from prison only two months ago, the suspect's latest actions prompted an immediate response from security forces. The French anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office has officially opened an inquiry into the incident. The high-traffic area remained cordoned off by security forces during the preliminary investigation.
