Trump administration sues Harvard University over admission records
The Trump administration filed a lawsuit against Harvard University in a Boston federal court, accusing the institution of failing to comply with a federal investigation. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is seeking documents related to the university's student admission process to verify compliance with a 2023 Supreme Court ruling. This ruling previously declared race-conscious admission programs unconstitutional. According to the DOJ, the legal action aims strictly to compel the production of records and does not currently allege discriminatory behavior or seek financial damages. The lawsuit also avoids requesting a revocation of federal funding at this stage. Earlier this month, President Donald Trump stated his administration sought $1 billion from the university to settle investigations into its educational policies. This lawsuit is part of a broader government effort to influence university policies through federal funding oversight. Harvard representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the filing.
