Yiannos Kouyoumdjian finishes 64th in giant slalom at Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympics
Cypriot alpine skier Yiannos Kouyoumdjian placed 64th in the giant slalom event at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics on Saturday, February 14. Competing at the Stelvio Ski Centre in Bormio, the 29-year-old recorded a combined time of 2:52.11 across two runs. Out of 81 initial competitors, only 69 athletes successfully finished both legs of the race due to challenging weather conditions. Kouyoumdjian completed his first run in 1:29.14 and maintained his 64th position during the second run. This performance marks his second consecutive Olympic appearance, following the Beijing 2022 Games where he previously finished 42nd. His next and final event, the slalom, is scheduled for Monday, February 16, where he will start 80th among 96 athletes. The Cypriot delegation at the games includes officials from the Cyprus Olympic Committee and coach Doros Christodoulou. Cyprus will also be represented by Andrea Loizidou in the women’s slalom on February 18.
