Greek farmers hold major rally and overnight protest at Syntagma Square
On Friday, February 13, 2026, hundreds of Greek farmers gathered at Syntagma Square in Athens for a large-scale demonstration organized by the Panhellenic Committee of Blocks. According to police estimates, more than 40 tractors and over 1,000 protesters participated, though some reports indicated higher numbers. The demonstrators demanded lower production costs, tax-free fuel, cheaper electricity, and 100% compensation for crop damage. Representatives, including Rizos Maroudas and Kostas Tzellas, stated that previous meetings with the Prime Minister resulted in unsatisfactory offers. The protest was supported by the ADEDY civil service union, student groups, and labor unions who were simultaneously protesting a collective bargaining bill. Agricultural vehicles arriving in the capital underwent disinfection due to sheep and goat pox concerns. After staying overnight in front of the Parliament, the farmers scheduled their departure for Saturday afternoon. Protesters emphasized their intention to continue mobilizations until their demands for sustainable production are met.
