27-year-old man sentenced to two years for ten thousand euro email fraud

The Larnaca District Court sentenced a 27-year-old man to two years in prison for his involvement in an internet fraud case involving the embezzlement of €10,000. The investigation, conducted by the Larnaca CID, revealed that the perpetrators intercepted email communications between a company in Larnaca and another in Limassol. The companies were coordinating a payment for construction materials when the scammers sent a fraudulent email containing their own bank details. This led the Larnaca-based company to transfer the funds to an account controlled by the fraudsters instead of the intended recipient. The incident was first reported to the police on June 28, 2023, by the director of the victimized company. Following an extensive investigation, the 27-year-old suspect was identified and arrested on July 13, 2025. He was subsequently found guilty of obtaining goods by false pretenses and cybercrime offenses.
