Digital platforms and local events drive poetry revival in Cyprus
Digital platforms are reshaping the creation and distribution of poetry across Europe and Cyprus, making it more accessible by removing traditional gatekeepers such as publishers. In Cyprus, this trend is reflected in local events like a youth poetry slam recently held at Xenion High School. During the slam, students used spoken word to discuss themes of identity and social change, with performances later circulating on social media. Additionally, a creative writing workshop was conducted in connection with the Larnaca Biennale, highlighting a strong interest in literary development. These digital tools allow writers in locations like Limassol to share work instantly with audiences in cities like Rotterdam or Berlin. The shift allows individuals without formal publishing backgrounds to participate in international creative communities. Consequently, poetry is transitioning from a niche academic interest to a more democratic and public medium.
