CIA releases recruitment video in Mandarin targeting Chinese officials; Beijing vows response
The United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has released a new recruitment video in Mandarin titled "Save the Future" on YouTube and other social media platforms. The video features a fictional disillusioned military officer who criticizes the Chinese leadership for corruption and prioritizing personal interests. This campaign specifically targets officers of the People's Liberation Army and high-ranking government officials, encouraging them to provide information to the U.S. agency. CIA leadership stated that a previous similar campaign nine months ago successfully reached many Chinese citizens seeking change. In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian announced that China will take all necessary measures to counter foreign interference and destabilizing actions. Beijing characterized the recruitment attempt as a political provocation by anti-Chinese forces. The move comes amid reports of extensive purges within the top ranks of the Chinese military under President Xi Jinping. The Chinese government maintains that these actions are intended to defend its sovereignty, security, and development interests.
