Cyprus police deploy team to Brussels for EU Council security
The Republic of Cyprus has deployed a 13-member team from the Police Mobile Unit (MMAD) to Brussels to support security operations. This initiative is part of Cyprus's upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU during the first half of 2026. The personnel are tasked with strengthening security at European Council facilities and various meeting venues. On Thursday, the MMAD team provided security for the Informal Competitiveness Council meeting. The group's responsibilities include participating in preparatory meetings, briefings, and the execution of security protocols throughout the events. The deployment aims to coordinate with EU security frameworks during the presidency period. This move highlights Cyprus's involvement in the administrative and security aspects of the European Union's rotating leadership. The team will remain active across various venues to ensure the safety of proceedings.
