Two men arrested for stealing bus parts in Dhekelia British Bases

Two men, identified as a Greek Cypriot and a Greek national, were arrested on February 3 for stealing components from decommissioned buses in the Ormidia area. The arrests were conducted by the British Sovereign Base Area (SBA) Police during a routine patrol after the suspects were spotted outside a fenced enclosure. Officers discovered bus parts loaded into the suspects' vehicle, with an estimated total value of approximately €10,000. Authorities believe the parts were intended to be sold as scrap metal. In addition to the theft charges, the pair were found in possession of a small quantity of Class A drugs, which police believe was for personal use. The suspects were brought before a court on the Wednesday following their arrest and have been referred to trial. They are scheduled to appear again before the SBA Court in Dhekelia on March 3. Temporary Superintendent Marcos Petrou stated that scrap metal theft is a persistent issue and emphasized that the police are taking the case very seriously.
