France reaches record egg consumption in 2025 as demand for affordable protein grows

France recorded a peak in egg consumption in 2025, reaching an average of 237 eggs per person. This figure marks an increase from the 227 eggs consumed per capita in 2024, according to the industrial association CNPO. Market research from Circana indicates that the upward trend began during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and has remained steady since then. Consequently, French producers are expanding production facilities to meet the rising demand. The French Technological Institute (ITAVI) forecasts that consumption will reach 269 eggs per person annually by 2035. While wholesale egg prices rose by approximately 20% over the past year per FranceAgriMer data, retail prices remained stable. This stability is attributed to a government mechanism that regulates food prices based on agricultural production costs.
