Development of Nicosia Metropolitan Park at the State Fair site

Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos has announced that the development of the West Nicosia Metropolitan Park at the former State Fair site is progressing rapidly. The project involves creating a 240,000-square-meter green space, which is expected to be the largest urban park in Cyprus. The total cost is estimated at approximately €50 million, with €25 million allocated for the park itself and another €25 million for the maintenance of eight existing pavilions. Only eight of the original 55 pavilions will remain, ensuring that building coverage does not exceed 10% of the total area. The Nicosia Water Board (EOA) will construct two rainwater retention lakes to assist with flood prevention in Engomi and Agios Dometios. A feasibility study for the Sopaz district has also been completed to facilitate the creation of an innovation zone. An architectural competition in collaboration with ETEK is planned following public consultations to ensure transparency. Additionally, funding has been secured for a bicycle path connecting the area to Agios Dometios.
