Family in West Sussex sentenced to 100 years for child abuse and sexual assault

A family in West Sussex, United Kingdom, has been sentenced to a combined total of 100 years in prison for the long-term sexual and physical abuse of a young girl. The victim, now 13 years old, was subjected to severe abuse between the ages of six and twelve, though physical assaults reportedly began as early as age three. The girl's father, uncle, and brothers were convicted of sexual assault, while her 43-year-old mother was found guilty of aiding the crimes and inflicting physical torture. Court evidence revealed that the mother beat the child, locked her in a cupboard without food, burned her with hot wax, and rubbed salt into her wounds. The case was uncovered after the girl confided in her teachers about the situation at home. During the four-week trial, it was also disclosed that the girl's nine-year-old sister had been a victim of physical abuse. All family members involved in the case are reportedly of the Muslim faith.
