Reports debunk pro-Russian disinformation linking Ukraine to Epstein case

Investigations by Agence France-Presse (AFP) and the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) have identified pro-Russian social media accounts spreading false claims about Ukraine. These accounts allege that documents released on January 30, 2024, regarding convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, link Ukraine to global child trafficking networks. Some narratives suggest the 2022 Russian invasion was an attempt by President Vladimir Putin to rescue children from these networks. However, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Putin in 2023 for the unlawful deportation of approximately 20,000 Ukrainian children to Russia. While Russia claims these removals were for protection, Ukraine and international bodies categorize them as forced displacements. The Epstein documents released in late January 2024 contain references to various prominent figures but do not support the trafficking allegations against Ukraine. One specific disinformation post on the platform X reached over three million views.
