Nicosia moves forward with plans for State Fair park and Sopaz innovation zone

Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos informed the House interior committee on Thursday that studies for the redevelopment of the State Fair and Sopaz areas have been completed. The proposed plan involves converting the 240,000 square metre State Fair site in Engomi into a metropolitan park and the Sopaz area into an innovation zone. The total cost for the park project is estimated at €50 million, divided equally between the maintenance of eight existing pavilions and the creation of green space. Built structures will be limited to less than 10 per cent of the total area to address the lack of green spaces in the capital. The municipality has requested an immediate €2 million for urgent restoration and electrical upgrades during the transition period. A tripartite committee involving the municipality, the state, and the Chamber of Commerce is expected to meet in March to finalize these decisions.
