Allegations of internal corruption in Cyprus Game and Fauna Service following arson attacks
Following the arson of two service vehicles in Evrychou and a warden's vehicle in Paphos last week, the ISOTITA Union has alleged internal corruption within the Game and Fauna Service. The union claims that criminals and poachers receive information from insiders, allowing them to act without fear. In response, Petros Anayiotos, the spokesperson for the Service, acknowledged the possibility of internal leaks but criticized the union for making general statements without providing specific evidence. He stated that the Service has requested the union to submit any data they have to facilitate disciplinary actions or dismissals. The Cyprus Police are currently investigating the arson incidents and have indicated they will call union members for testimony if the need arises during the probe. The union has urged citizens to report information regarding the perpetrators, even anonymously, to the authorities. Meanwhile, the Service maintains that without documented proof, it can only take limited administrative measures like staff transfers.
