Heavy rainfall and landslides cause traffic disruptions across Cyprus
On Friday, February 13, 2026, heavy rainfall across Cyprus caused significant traffic problems due to slippery road surfaces and limited visibility. The Cyprus Police reported that the Larnaca-Kofinou, Larnaca-Nicosia, and Limassol-Paphos motorways were particularly affected by water accumulation and flow. Starting around 2:15 PM, drivers were warned of dangerous conditions and urged to drive at low speeds while maintaining safe distances. Additionally, the Platres-Trooditissa road experienced landslides involving rocks and soil, further restricting visibility and safety. A yellow weather warning for rain and thunderstorms issued by the Meteorological Department remained in effect until 6:00 AM the following morning. Authorities advised all motorists to keep their headlights on and exercise extreme caution while traveling through the affected areas. Reports also indicated snowfall in the Troodos mountains, contributing to the wintry weather conditions across the island. No major accidents were reported in the police updates, but the risk of hydroplaning was emphasized.
