Nicosia celebrates Tsiknopempti with carnival events and tram float

On Tsiknopempti, the Municipality of Nicosia organized its first large-scale festive event to mark the beginning of the Carnival season. The celebrations took place in the city center, culminating at the square of the New City Hall. A central feature was a carnival float designed as a miniature tram, which traveled through the old city as a self-deprecating reference to local transport discussions. Mayor Charalambos Prountzos stated that the event fulfilled a municipal commitment to revitalize the city center and bring life back to the neighborhood. Traditional outdoor grilling was provided by the municipality for employees and passers-by throughout the afternoon. Despite initial rainy weather, the event drew crowds for food, music, and masquerading in the capital. Looking ahead, a major carnival parade is scheduled for Sunday at 11:30 a.m. on Kyrenia Avenue. This parade is expected to involve over 8,000 participants, including special education students and groups with their pets.
