Complaints over renovation conditions at Makario Hospital pediatric oncology clinic

The Parents' Association of the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at Makario Hospital has raised serious concerns regarding ongoing renovation works affecting hospitalized children and their families. Reported issues include extreme noise pollution from heavy machinery, dust and soil falling from false ceilings, and water leaks in areas housing immunosuppressed patients. Health Minister Neofytos Charalambides visited the site on Thursday and admitted to a lack of empathy in the project's execution. Following a consultation with the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY), it was decided that construction hours would be modified to reduce disturbance. OKYPY spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou stated that while the renovations are necessary, the noisy phases of the project are expected to conclude within several days. The administration previously decided to keep patients in situ rather than relocate them to the Nicosia General Hospital to avoid further complications. Political party Volt Cyprus criticized the current planning, advocating for a modern, autonomous pediatric oncology center. Technical services assured that measures such as water filter installations and window sealing have been implemented to mitigate the impact of the works.
