DISY and CTP leadership meet to discuss resumption of Cyprus problem negotiations
On Thursday, Annita Demetriou, the President of the Democratic Rally (DISY), met with the leadership of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) to discuss the Cyprus problem. Accompanied by members of the party’s leadership and the "Cyprus Problem Group," Demetriou emphasized the necessity of immediately resuming negotiations without preconditions. The proposed basis for these talks is the existing negotiation acquis, picking up from the progress made at Crans-Montana. The objective remains a solution based on a Bizonal, Bicommunal Federation in accordance with United Nations resolutions. DISY reiterated its stance for a settlement without foreign guarantees or the presence of occupation troops, while fully respecting European Union principles. During the meeting, both parties also examined various Confidence Building Measures to foster trust between the communities. Additionally, suggestions were made to create a more inclusive and transparent dialogue process. Demetriou expressed DISY's full readiness to support ongoing efforts to find common ground between the two sides.
