Larnaca court remands suspects in major drug bust and torture video investigation
On Sunday, the Larnaca District Court ordered the eight-day remand of five suspects, aged 19 to 39, following a major anti-drug operation conducted on Saturday. Police arrested a total of nine individuals during the raids, including a 72-year-old man, his son, and his grandson, though four suspects were released pending further examinations. Authorities seized approximately 400 grams of cocaine, 150 grams of cannabis, two firearms—including a military-style rifle and a silenced pistol—and 9,605 euros in cash. The suspects face multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit a felony, drug trafficking, and participation in a criminal organization. In a separate legal proceeding, the court extended the detention of two men, aged 48 and 27, by five days regarding an investigation into torture videos filmed in Pyla. These suspects are facing 14 charges, including kidnapping, grievous bodily harm, and violations of the Convention against Torture. The 48-year-old was already in custody as a suspect in a previous shooting incident that occurred in Larnaca on January 17. Police believe the torture incidents took place in July 2025, potentially within an illegal gambling facility. Investigations are ongoing to identify further victims and accomplices linked to both criminal cases.
