Chinese community celebrates Lunar New Year in Paphos with robotic demonstrations
On a Wednesday afternoon in 2026, the Chinese community of Cyprus gathered in the square outside Paphos Town Hall to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Horse. Despite light rain, dozens of Chinese residents from Paphos and other districts attended the festivities along with local Cypriots and foreign tourists. Paphos Municipal Councilor Alexandros Jiang welcomed the attendees, highlighting the cooperation between the Chinese community and local authorities. The event featured a technological demonstration by Chinese robot developers and programmers who showcased advanced robots. These robots performed choreographed martial arts routines with precision and, in some segments, participated in staged demonstrations alongside human athletes. This event marked the first time such robotic technology was integrated into the local holiday celebrations in Paphos. The gathering emphasized both cultural traditions and modern technological achievements from China. The festivities concluded with a positive reception from the diverse audience present at the city center.
