Health minister Neofytos Charalambides visits Nicosia General Hospital to discuss €145 million upgrades
Cyprus Health Minister Neofytos Charalambides conducted his first official visit to Nicosia General Hospital to review operations and infrastructure needs. During the visit, he met with department heads and medical staff to discuss challenges facing the country’s largest public hospital. The minister announced that the government is implementing upgrade projects worth over €145 million across all public hospitals to modernize equipment and facilities. While general patient complaints were described as low, a specific issue regarding food quality, primarily at Limassol Hospital, was identified for immediate resolution. Charalambides characterized existing infrastructure as old and emphasized a strategic shift toward a patient-centric healthcare system. Regarding seasonal illnesses, the State Health Services Organisation (OKYPY) reported that the situation at emergency departments remains manageable and comparable to last year. The investment package also includes the creation of new clinics and the upgrade of intensive care units. These initiatives are part of the government’s broader governance planning for the health sector through 2026.
