Attempted murder investigation launched after mother allegedly sedates 7-year-old son in Limassol

Limassol police have launched an attempted murder investigation against a 41-year-old mother who allegedly administered sedatives to her seven-year-old son. The incident occurred on the night of February 10, when the child's father found both the mother and son unconscious at their home. They were rushed to a private hospital where medical examinations confirmed the presence of sedative medication in their systems. While both were initially in a comatose state, doctors successfully revived them, and the child was discharged in good health on Wednesday. The mother was arrested under a court warrant but was later transferred to Athalassa psychiatric hospital following an evaluation by a state psychiatrist. Limassol CID chief Lefteris Kyriakou stated that the case is being handled with sensitivity in collaboration with Social Welfare Services. Investigators are currently gathering statements to clarify the exact circumstances of the event. Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be forwarded to the Legal Service for a final decision on the charges.
