Urgent appeal for bone marrow donor for 18-month-old infant with leukemia

An urgent appeal has been issued for a compatible bone marrow donor to save the life of 18-month-old Konstantinos, who has been diagnosed with type 7 leukemia. The infant, whose family originates from Paphos and Famagusta, is scheduled to travel to Germany at the end of February for a transplant. Despite searches through the Karaiskakio Foundation's registry, a compatible match has not yet been found. Potential donors between the ages of 18 and 45 are encouraged to provide a simple saliva sample for HLA typing. The registration process is non-invasive and involves a cheek swab, while the donation itself is typically similar to a blood transfusion. Sampling locations include the Karaiskakio Foundation and various centers in Paphos, such as Evangelismos Hospital and Medicare Diagnostic Center. The family is calling for widespread participation to increase the chances of finding a match before the scheduled surgery.
