Passenger plane overruns runway into Indian Ocean in Somalia

On Tuesday morning, a Starsky Airlines Fokker 50 aircraft carrying 50 passengers and five crew members performed an emergency landing at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu. The flight was originally bound for Gaalkacyo but reported technical difficulties approximately 15 minutes after takeoff. Although the crew attempted to return to the airport, the aircraft failed to stop on the runway and came to rest in shallow waters of the Indian Ocean. All 55 people on board survived without serious injuries. Footage from the scene showed passengers evacuating the damaged aircraft, which suffered a broken wing. African Union and UN forces assisted in the rescue operations alongside the Somali Minister of Transport. Starsky Airlines attributed the safe evacuation to the pilot's quick response, though the exact nature of the technical failure remains under investigation.
