66-year-old man arrested in Limassol over 32,000 euro land sale fraud

Limassol police arrested a 66-year-old man on Tuesday night following allegations of a fraudulent land sale. A couple reported to the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department on February 2nd that they had paid the suspect a total of €32,000 for an agricultural plot. The initial agreement occurred in 2020, at a time when the suspect reportedly served as a community leader. According to the victims, they paid €20,000 in two cash installments in 2020 and a further €12,000 in 2023. Investigations revealed the suspect was merely a tenant of the land, which one source identified as protected Turkish-Cypriot property that cannot be legally sold. On Wednesday, the Limassol District Court ordered the suspect's detention for five days. The man faces charges of obtaining money by false pretences, fraudulent transactions in property belonging to others, and money laundering.
