Police investigate suspected bird poaching in Tochni after 35-year-old man detained
On Wednesday morning, Cyprus police detained a 35-year-old man in the Tochni area of Larnaca for suspected bird poaching. Members of the Anti-Poaching Squad of the MMAD unit spotted the suspect while patrolling the area. He was observed approaching a field where two mist-net setups had been installed to trap birds. A device broadcasting imitation bird calls was also in operation at the site to lure the animals. Officers intervened as the man attempted to remove birds from the nets. They subsequently released four wild birds, identified as thrushes, which had been caught in the equipment. The suspect was taken to the Zygi Police Station for questioning and further investigation. The local station is currently handling the legal proceedings regarding the incident.
