Cypriot justice minister seeks formal testimony from whistleblower Annie Alexui
Justice Minister Costas Fitiris confirmed that Cypriot authorities are working to obtain a formal statement from Ioanna Photiou, known online as Annie Alexui, regarding serious allegations of corruption and misconduct. Alexui recently posted videos on social media accusing senior police officers and state officials of ties to organized crime and judicial cover-ups. The minister emphasized that while the claims are not being dismissed, investigations must proceed through institutional channels rather than social media platforms. He stated that a safe mechanism would be established for her to hand over evidence, which she claims includes video recordings and a hard drive. Specific individuals named in her allegations include Assistant Police Chief Michalis Katsounotos and Deputy Attorney-General Savvas Angelides. Lawyer Simos Angelides has criticized the authorities for selective scrutiny, noting that investigations into Alexui's claims have been slower than other recent high-profile cases. Fitiris maintained that formal witness testimonies and written statements are a legal prerequisite for any criminal inquiry.
