Person detained in investigation of Nancy Guthrie's abduction in Arizona
On Tuesday, authorities detained a person during a traffic stop in connection with the abduction of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC anchor Savannah Guthrie. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and FBI later conducted a court-authorized search at a residence in Rio Rico, Arizona, located approximately 60 miles south of Tucson near the Mexican border. This development occurred shortly after the FBI released surveillance footage showing an armed, masked individual tampering with a doorbell camera at Guthrie's home on the night of her disappearance nine days ago. FBI Director Kash Patel explained that these images were recently recovered from surveillance records that were previously inaccessible or potentially tampered with. While law enforcement has not officially released the identity of the person in custody, they confirmed the individual is being questioned regarding the ongoing investigation. A woman identifying herself as the detainee's mother-in-law told reporters that he is a delivery driver and maintains his innocence. She further claimed that authorities searched her home based on a tip that Guthrie was being held there, though she denied the victim's presence. As of now, officials have not provided an update on Nancy Guthrie's whereabouts or her condition. The case is currently being treated as a presumed kidnapping for ransom that has drawn national attention.
