Cyprus ranks among highest EU nations for Ukrainian protection recipients per capita
According to Eurostat data from late 2025 and early 2026, Cyprus recorded 25.8 recipients of temporary protection from Ukraine per 1,000 inhabitants, more than double the EU average of 9.7. This figure places Cyprus in a tie with Slovakia for the third-highest ratio in the European Union, trailing only the Czech Republic at 36.0 and Poland at 26.6. Across the EU, a total of 4.35 million non-EU citizens fleeing Ukraine held temporary protection status, representing a 0.6% increase from previous reporting periods. Germany hosted the largest absolute number of beneficiaries with over 1.25 million people, followed by Poland and the Czech Republic. Among the 26 countries with available data, 22 reported increases in recipients, while only four, led by France and Estonia, saw declines. Ukrainian citizens constitute 98.4% of the beneficiaries, with adult women making up 43.6% and minors 30.5% of the total. The temporary protection scheme, originally established in March 2022, has been extended by the European Council until March 4, 2027.
