Hope for Children calls for global ban on AI nudifying tools

On the occasion of Safer Internet Day, the Hope For Children (HFC) CRC Policy Center, alongside over 100 international organizations, issued a call for immediate action against AI 'nudifying tools.' These technologies generate non-consensual nude or abusive images, disproportionately targeting children and women. The organizations involved include Child Helpline International, INHOPE, the Internet Watch Foundation, NCMEC, and others under the WeProtect Global Alliance. They argue that these tools facilitate sexual exploitation, extortion, and harm while remaining easily accessible. The coalition demands global recognition of the irreparable damage caused by these applications. Furthermore, they seek corporate accountability through safety-by-design implementations and legal bans on the development and distribution of such technology. The statement emphasizes that AI should serve as an ally rather than a threat to child safety. The group is also calling for legal consequences for the possession and distribution of these AI-generated materials.
