Actor Lambros Filippou sentenced to four years for rape and attempted rape
On Monday, February 9, a Mixed Jury Court found actor and director Lambros Filippou guilty of one count of rape and two counts of attempted rape. The offenses occurred between 2008 and 2014 and were brought to justice following complaints by four women as part of the Greek #MeToo movement. The court sentenced Filippou to a total of four years in prison, consisting of two years for the rape and two years for one of the attempted rapes. Notably, the prosecutor had previously suggested acquittal on February 6 due to doubts but proposed the four-year sentence following the court's majority guilty verdict. Filippou was granted a suspension of his sentence pending appeal, provided he does not leave the country, and was subsequently released. During the trial, the defendant denied all charges, claiming the allegations were motivated by revenge or a search for publicity and maintaining that all encounters were consensual.
