Paphos woman sentenced to 3.5 years for burglary and theft of property worth 30,000 euros

The Paphos District Court sentenced a 30-year-old woman to three and a half years in prison on Tuesday for burglary, theft, and malicious damage. The court found her guilty of breaking into a residence approximately one year ago and stealing jewelry and cash totaling 30,340 euros. According to the evidence, she entered through the kitchen and gathered the items in a pillowcase before being confronted by the owner. The homeowner's husband managed to apprehend her in a nearby park, where she reportedly asked him not to call the police in exchange for returning the items. During the sentencing, the judge highlighted that the woman was wearing a stolen wedding ring belonging to one of the victims at the time of her arrest. The court noted that the defendant had seven previous convictions for similar offenses, demonstrating a persistent criminal history. The judge characterized the crimes as very serious and pointed to a complete lack of empathy from the defendant. Despite her claims that some of the cash found on her belonged to her personally, receipts belonging to the victims were discovered among the money.
