Limassol municipality and district organization receive environmental awards for 2025

The Limassol Municipality has been awarded the 'Green City of Cyprus 2025' title in two distinct categories following an evaluation by a Scientific Committee. In the Sustainable Movement and Transport category, the municipality scored 902/1000 for its 'Limassol Moves Green' project, which introduces on-demand minibuses and e-bikes. Its 'Climate Contract 2030' project, aimed at achieving climate neutrality under the European Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, received a score of 887/1000 in the Climate Change category. Simultaneously, the Limassol District Self-Government Organization (EOA Limassol) received the Gold Medal of Environment for Environmental Policies and Actions for 2025. This award, part of the Pan-Cyprian Environmental Awards, recognizes EOA's infrastructure projects including sewerage, flood protection, and water supply systems using renewable energy. The organization was also cited for its water recycling initiatives and educational efforts through its Water Museum. EOA President Yiannis Tsouloftas stated that the distinction validates the organization's focus on sustainable environmental practices. Both awards highlight local efforts toward accessibility and climate governance for residents and visitors.
