Investigation into attempted murder of 21-year-old in Nicosia follows debt dispute
Cyprus police are investigating the attempted murder of a 21-year-old Indian national that occurred in Nicosia on February 10, 2026. The victim sustained a serious blade wound to the neck during a dispute over an alleged debt of approximately 2,500 euros. He was transported to the Nicosia General Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and remains in stable condition. According to authorities, the victim and a companion were confronted by a group of five individuals at an apartment. During the altercation, one suspect attacked the victim with a sharp object while another punched the companion in the face. Police have arrested a 26-year-old suspect who has appeared before the Nicosia District Court for a remand hearing. Two other suspects, identified as Ankit Kumar and Pardeep, both 25-year-old Indian nationals, remain wanted by the police. Investigators suggested the primary assailant might have fled to the occupied northern areas of the island. The investigation by the Nicosia CID is ongoing as they seek further testimony and information regarding the whereabouts of the remaining suspects.
