Italy: Railway sabotage confirmed after serious damage discovered
Italian Transport Minister Matteo Salvini expressed deep concern over "serious acts of sabotage" that disrupted train services across central Italy. Police are currently investigating three incidents near Bologna, involving arson at a signaling tower and the cutting of monitoring cables. An improvised explosive device was also discovered near the tracks, leading to significant delays for thousands of travelers. Salvini suggested that these coordinated attacks might be linked to the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina. He drew parallels to the railway sabotage that occurred in France just before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as train services are gradually being restored.
